Responsive Reading: Psalm 51 : 10-15

10.     Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

11.     Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

12.     Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

13.     Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

14.     Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

15.     O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

Lesson Sermon

The Bible

1. Psalm 103 : 1-4, 9, 11

1     Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

2     Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

3     Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

4     Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

9     He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.

11     For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

2. Ezekiel 36 : 16 (the word), 17 (to :), 18-21, 24-26 (to :), 27, 28

16     …the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

17     Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings:

18     Wherefore I poured my fury upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land, and for their idols wherewith they had polluted it:

19     And I scattered them among the heathen, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them.

20     And when they entered unto the heathen, whither they went, they profaned my holy name, when they said to them, These are the people of the Lord, and are gone forth out of his land.

21     But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither they went.

24     For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.

25     Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

26     A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you:

27     And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

28     And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

3. Titus 3 : 3-6

3     For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

4     But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

5     Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

6     Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

4. Matthew 12 : 10-18, 21

10     And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

11     And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?

12     How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

13     Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

14     Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

15     But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;

16     And charged them that they should not make him known:

17     That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

18     Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

21     And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.

5. Romans 8 : 16, 17, 20, 21

16     The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17     And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

20     For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,

21     Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

6. Revelation 22 : 1-3 (to ;), 17

1     And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

2     In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

3     And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it;

17     And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

1. 468 : 12-13 (to ;), 13-15

Spirit is the real and eternal; … Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual.

2. 124 : 25-31

Spirit is the life, substance, and continuity of all things. We tread on forces. Withdraw them, and creation must collapse. Human knowledge calls them forces of matter; but divine Science declares that they belong wholly to divine Mind, are inherent in this Mind, and so restores them to their rightful home and classification.

3. 264 : 20-27

Spirit and its formations are the only realities of being. Matter disappears under the microscope of Spirit. Sin is unsustained by Truth, and sickness and death were overcome by Jesus, who proved them to be forms of error. Spiritual living and blessedness are the only evidences, by which we can recognize true existence and feel the unspeakable peace which comes from an all- absorbing spiritual love.

4. 594 : 19-21

Spirit. Divine substance; Mind; divine Principle; all that is good; God; that only which is perfect, everlasting, omnipresent, omnipotent, infinite.

5. 398 : 1-9

Sometimes Jesus called a disease by name, as when he said to the epileptic boy, "Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him." It is added that "the spirit [error] cried, and rent him sore and came out of him, and he was as one dead," — clear evidence that the malady was not material. These instances show the concessions which Jesus was willing to make to the popular ignorance of spiritual Life-laws.

6. 316 : 3-11

The real man being linked by Science to his Maker, mortals need only turn from sin and lose sight of mortal selfhood to find Christ, the real man and his relation to God, and to recognize the divine sonship. Christ, Truth, was demonstrated through Jesus to prove the power of Spirit over the flesh, — to show that Truth is made manifest by its effects upon the human mind and body, healing sickness and destroying sin.

7. 313 : 26-5

To accommodate himself to immature ideas of spiritual power, — for spirituality was possessed only in a limited degree even by his disciples, — Jesus called the body, which by spiritual power he raised from the grave, "flesh and bones." To show that the substance of himself was Spirit and the body no more perfect because of death and no less material until the ascension (his further spiritual exaltation), Jesus waited until the mortal or fleshly sense had relinquished the belief of substance-matter, and spiritual sense had quenched all earthly yearnings.

8. 425 : 23-28

Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered. Correct material belief by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form you anew. You will never fear again except to offend God, and you will never believe that heart or any portion of the body can destroy you.

9. 162 : 13-22

The indestructible faculties of Spirit exist without the conditions of matter and also without the false beliefs of a so-called material existence. Working out the rules of Science in practice, the author has restored health in cases of both acute and chronic disease in their severest forms.

Secretions have been changed, the structure has been renewed, shortened limbs have been elongated, ankylosed joints have been made supple, and carious bones have been restored to healthy conditions.

10. 223 : 2-6

Paul said, "Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." Sooner or later we shall learn that the fetters of man's finite capacity are forged by the illusion that he lives in body instead of in Soul, in matter instead of in Spirit.

11. 324 : 7-18

Unless the harmony and immortality of man are becoming more apparent, we are not gaining the true idea of God; and the body will reflect what governs it, whether it be Truth or error, understanding or belief, Spirit or matter. Therefore "acquaint now thyself with Him, and be at peace." Be watchful, sober, and vigilant. The way is straight and narrow, which leads to the understanding that God is the only Life. It is a warfare with the flesh, in which we must conquer sin, sickness, and death, either here or hereafter, — certainly before we can reach the goal of Spirit, or life in God.

12. 289 : 2-7

Mortal man can never rise from the temporal débris of error, belief in sin, sickness, and death, until he learns that God is the only Life. The belief that life and sensation are in the body should be overcome by the understanding of what constitutes man as the image of God. Then Spirit will have overcome the flesh.

13. 335 : 7 (Spirit)-15

Spirit, God, has created all in and of Himself. Spirit never created matter. There is nothing in Spirit out of which matter could be made, for, as the Bible declares, without the Logos, the Æon or Word of God, "was not anything made that was made." Spirit is the only substance, the invisible and indivisible infinite God. Things spiritual and eternal are substantial. Things material and temporal are insubstantial.

14. 249 : 6-8

Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into newness of life and recognizing no mortal nor material power as able to destroy.

15. 393 : 8-15

Mind is the master of the corporeal senses, and can conquer sickness, sin, and death. Exercise this God-given authority. Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man.
