Responsive Reading: Psalm 33 : 4-9

4.     For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth.

5.     He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.

6.     By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

7.     He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.

8.     Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

9.     For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

Lesson Sermon

The Bible

1. Psalm 19 : 1

1     The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

2. James 1 : 17, 18

17     Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

3. Genesis 17 : 1-6, 15-17

1     And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

2     And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

3     And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

4     As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

5     Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

6     And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

15     And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.

16     And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.

17     Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

4. Genesis 18 : 10-14

10     And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.

11     Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.

12     Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

13     And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?

14     Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

5. Genesis 21 : 1-3, 5, 6

1     And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken.

2     For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

3     And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.

5     And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.

6     And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.

6. Psalm 89 : 11

11     The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.

7. Isaiah 45 : 5, 6 (to 1st .), 8-10, 12, 13 (to :), 18

5     I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

6     That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me.

8     Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the Lord have created it.

9     Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

10     Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth?

12     I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.

13     I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways:

18     For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else.

8. I Chronicles 29 : 11-13

11     Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.

12     Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

13     Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

1. 295 : 5-8

God creates and governs the universe, including man. The universe is filled with spiritual ideas, which He evolves, and they are obedient to the Mind that makes them.

2. 472 : 24 (All)-26

All reality is in God and His creation, harmonious and eternal. That which He creates is good, and He makes all that is made.

3. 332 : 4 (Father-Mother)-8

Father-Mother is the name for Deity, which indicates His tender relationship to His spiritual creation. As the apostle expressed it in words which he quoted with approbation from a classic poet: "For we are also His offspring."

4. 520 : 23 (God)-24 (to 2nd ,), 26-3

…God creates all through Mind, not through matter, … Mortal thought drops into the ground, but the immortal creating thought is from above, not from beneath. Because Mind makes all, there is nothing left to be made by a lower power. Spirit acts through the Science of Mind, never causing man to till the ground, but making him superior to the soil. Knowledge of this lifts man above the sod, above earth and its environments, to conscious spiritual harmony and eternal being.

5. 507 : 15-6

The universe of Spirit reflects the creative power of the divine Principle, or Life, which reproduces the multitudinous forms of Mind and governs the multiplication of the compound idea man. The tree and herb do not yield fruit because of any propagating power of their own, but because they reflect the Mind which includes all. A material world implies a mortal mind and man a creator. The scientific divine creation declares immortal Mind and the universe created by God.

Infinite Mind creates and governs all, from the mental molecule to infinity. This divine Principle of all expresses Science and art throughout His creation, and the immortality of man and the universe. Creation is ever appearing, and must ever continue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source. Mortal sense inverts this appearing and calls ideas material. Thus misinterpreted, the divine idea seems to fall to the level of a human or material belief, called mortal man. But the seed is in itself, only as the divine Mind is All and reproduces all — as Mind is the multiplier, and Mind's infinite idea, man and the universe, is the product. The only intelligence or substance of a thought, a seed, or a flower is God, the creator of it.

6. 286 : 17-26

The Scriptures declare all that He made to be good, like Himself, — good in Principle and in idea. Therefore the spiritual universe is good, and reflects God as He is.

God's thoughts are perfect and eternal, are substance and Life. Material and temporal thoughts are human, involving error, and since God, Spirit, is the only cause, they lack a divine cause. The temporal and material are not then creations of Spirit. They are but counterfeits of the spiritual and eternal.

7. 259 : 22-31

Mortal thought transmits its own images, and forms its offspring after human illusions. God, Spirit, works spiritually, not materially. Brain or matter never formed a human concept.

Vibration is not intelligence; hence it is not a creator. Immortal ideas, pure, perfect, and enduring, are transmitted by the divine Mind through divine Science, which corrects error with truth and demands spiritual thoughts, divine concepts, to the end that they may produce harmonious results.

8. 302 : 31-7

Even in Christian Science, reproduction by Spirit's individual ideas is but the reflection of the creative power of the divine Principle of those ideas. The reflection, through mental manifestation, of the multitudinous forms of Mind which people the realm of the real is controlled by Mind, the Principle governing the reflection. Multiplication of God's children comes from no power of propagation in matter, it is the reflection of Spirit.

9. 303 : 10-20

Whatever reflects Mind, Life, Truth, and Love, is spiritually conceived and brought forth; but the statement that man is conceived and evolved both spiritually and materially, or by both God and man, contradicts this eternal truth. All the vanity of the ages can never make both these contraries true. Divine Science lays the axe at the root of the illusion that life, or mind, is formed by or is in the material body, and Science will eventually destroy this illusion through the self- destruction of all error and the beatified understanding of the Science of Life.

10. 192 : 19-24 (to 1st .)

In Science, you can have no power opposed to God, and the physical senses must give up their false testimony. Your influence for good depends upon the weight you throw into the right scale. The good you do and embody gives you the only power obtainable.

11. 473 : 4-12

The Science of Mind disposes of all evil. Truth, God, is not the father of error. Sin, sickness, and death are to be classified as effects of error. Christ came to destroy the belief of sin. The God- principle is omnipresent and omnipotent. God is everywhere, and nothing apart from Him is present or has power. Christ is the ideal Truth, that comes to heal sickness and sin through Christian Science, and attributes all power to God.

12. 260 : 13-18

Science reveals the possibility of achieving all good, and sets mortals at work to discover what God has already done; but distrust of one's ability to gain the goodness desired and to bring out better and higher results, often hampers the trial of one's wings and ensures failure at the outset.

13. 261 : 32-7

Good demands of man every hour, in which to work out the problem of being. Consecration to good does not lessen man's dependence on God, but heightens it. Neither does consecration diminish man's obligations to God, but shows the paramount necessity of meeting them.

Christian Science takes naught from the perfection of God, but it ascribes to Him the entire glory.

14. 264 : 28-31

When we learn the way in Christian Science and recognize man's spiritual being, we shall behold and understand God's creation, — all the glories of earth and heaven and man.
